He rolled up in a brand new loaded black-on-black CTS-V. Was I jealous? You betcha. But that’s not the best toy he has (and brother, he’s got a stable full of ‘em).

He also now has a 458 Spyder, a private jet (Citation, I think), and a HondaJet on order. The problem is that I want to hang out with him more, but I don’t want him to think I’m just hanging out with him because of his money (I’m not). Cool toys aside, he’s a nice guy that I want to get to know again.

But if he offered to take me out racing in his rides, I wouldn’t say “no”.

Cool beans. I didn’t realise the HondaJets were being delivered yet (aha - the WikiCopter says they started deliveries around Christmas). My dad used to fly Citations, among many other things, so I grew up around bizjets. Taxiing into an FBO after you land definitely beats going through the regular terminal. :)

Sounds like he has good taste and I think if you want to hang out with him but make him not think it is about the money invite him to your house or somewhere were the money wouldn't matter like golfing

Here’s the thing: a friend may sell me his 2000 E39 BMW for $4k. That’s an exotic hotrod purchase for me. If I became fabulously wealthy tomorrow, that Cadillac, at $100k, is the NORTH END of what I’d go for. And even then, I’d look for something two or three years old and maybe have it modded a little. Then again, it’s probably difficult for those of us who don’t have much money to imagine how we’d live if we did.

He’s a serial entrepreneur. Bars, restaurants, businesses, etc. I actually can’t say what his primary business is, as someone decent at Google would be able to figure out who he is.

He’s pretty smart with his money for the most part. Hell, he even makes money on his private jet when he’s not using it.

I hope to someday be in a position where I can buy a new CTS-V and have it be my “slow, economical car”.

I hope I didn’t give you the impression that I had any judgments to make about your friend, or you, for that matter. I have limited means and I do poorly at living within them. So if there was any English on the ball, it was just me being envious. But seriously: the CTS-V is probably my definition of a supercar. Four doors, five seatbelts, RWD, and ample power to commit costly lapses in judgment. And Detroit.

It gets to 60 in 3.5 seconds, is beautiful, and has a howling Z06 V8. I’m plenty envious too, trust me.

True ... but ideally the insurance would be on the racing school that was dumb enough to put me behind the wheel. And I think Gallardo - that would be the car I’d be least likely to slam into a wall. Better still, a base R8. That would do nicely.
